God Creatives

Peter Thiel's Zero To One is a laudable book on thinking, creativity and ideas. With his contrarian questions he showed a departure from popular thinking which is a key step in creativity.

It's like when Paul said do not conformed to the thinking of this world but be transformed by a new ideal and disposition.

Here's a snippet of Theil's thought; "Vertical progress is harder to imagine because it requires doing something nobody else has ever done. If you take one typewriter and build 100, you have made horizontal progress. If you have a typewriter and build a word processor, you have made vertical progress."

He then said Vertical is 0 - 1 (Zero to one) while Horizontal is 1 - n (one to infinity). But even when he says zero, zero doesn't mean nothing just like nonsense in philosophy doesn't mean outright foolishness. The creator of a word processor needs the elemental ideas of a typewriter to create it.

It's the consciousness of the typewriter that births a word processor. Things are built on things. Only God created from void (zero). Therefore nothing is really new just like the Preacher said. Newness is relative.

If you want to increase creativity it's to broaden your horizon. Be voracious. The amalgamation of different perspectives from various fields leads to 'new' thing.

Question statusquo.

The world needs to carry out a lot of research to birth new things but for the God creative the Holy Spirit simplifies things. That doesn't mean no research but made easy. Don't seek to work alone, much study is weariness of the flesh. Ecc. 12:12.

BUT there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding (ideas). Job 32:8

  1. This is well articulated! Vertical progress, 0-1. I see!
